When my friend Aimee and I decided to run the WDW Marathon, it took us about 5 seconds to pick what costumes to wear. We knew we wanted to be classic Disney characters and we wanted something that wouldn’t chafe or annoy us over 26.2 miles. And of course we wanted to look cute! And since Minnie and Daisy are also best friends, they were the obvious choice.
Aimee requested a pink Minnie outfit like she wears in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I loved that idea since Daisy’s corresponding outfit would be purple and purple is my jam!
Speaking of jams, I asked HalfCrazyMama to alter the colors of her marathon Jamberry nail wraps to match our outfits. She did me one better and made us custom Minnie and Daisy Jamberrys! We LOVED them and are both now hooked on Jamberry nails.
For Aimee’s top, I bought a Brooks Essential V-neck tee and sewed the puffy sleeves from McCalls 6030 on top of the existing sleeves. I found the perfect pink polka dot fabric at Spandex House as always.
For her skirt, I used the waistband from Butterick 4593 and followed makeitandloveit’s tutorial for the ruffles. I used my Silhouette’s fabric blade to make the eyelet slip layer. Minnie technically wears eyelet bloomers, not a slip, but I didn’t think that would be very practical for 26.2 miles!
I made her a sweaty band-type headband and used this tutorial to make the ears. I think she liked it!For Daisy, I found some very ducky white fabric in the bridal section at Joann’s. I used McCall’s 3341 as a base, but used fold-over elastic to gather the waist instead of doing darts and a zipper. The important thing was to use an A-line skirt pattern to give my legs room to move since the fabric didn’t stretch. I was worried that it would be hot or irritate me, but it was totally comfortable the whole 4 hours and 59 minutes!
My top and shorts were both Reebok since their stuff seems to fit my body type the best (and more importantly since I already had them). For Daisy’s duck bill I used a white 2XU visor from Amazon . I hot glued fun foam on for the bow and eyes and painted the bill of the visor yellow with fabric paint. I’m glad I used fabric paint instead of craft paint since it rained during the marathon!
For the legs, I wore some yellow Zensah Compression Sleeves and my trusty Brooks Pureflow 2’s to complete the ensemble.
Minnie and Daisy seemed to approve! They were jumping up and down and waving their arms when they saw us. We were pretty much doing the same thing to them!
After the marathon, we were so pumped that we decided to go get marathon tattoos! Well, henna tattoos anyway. 😉
